Looking for a nice walking or cycling challenge?
The St. Francis Route is a route on foot or by bike that connects different “places” that bear witness to the life and preaching of the saint of Assisi; a “new” pilgrimage route, intended to reintroduce the Franciscan experience to the lands through which the poor man passed on his journeys.
In its fidelity to the story of St. Francis, the Way is plausible and charming: the landscapes that the pilgrim will see are the same that brought joy to the simple heart of St. Francis; the stopping places preserve the memory of his words and gestures; the people you meet along the way are his family. Despite everything, Umbria has remained the land of Francesco, nourished by a spirituality that speaks of love for the little things, of respect and gratitude for creation, of generous hospitality for the next man, whoever he may be.
Walking on the Way of St. Francis is therefore an authentic spiritual journey that responds to the desire of man, even modern man, to seek the meaning of his own existence deep within himself. The figure of St. Francis, towering over Assisi, the final destination of the walk, accompanies you in reality throughout the journey and speaks to the heart and mind of the traveler about the possibility of living your daily life in total harmony with the world, with man and with God.
It is a precious art of living and the most authentic result of the journey to Assisi: a gift that Umbria of St. Francis can give to the pilgrim or to anyone who approaches it with an open heart.
There are different routes:
*The northern route from La Verna to Assisi 200 km
*The southern route Rome to Assisi 300 km
*The Roman road from La Verna to Rome 500 km
All routes are divided into different stages and of course you can also extend or shorten the stages yourself. You can also order a special pilgrim passport so that you can stamp along the route in order to finally receive a testimony.
